Ex-Patriots Star Gronk Announces Retirement From Football: 'I Gave It Everything I Had'

Former New England Patriots star Rob Gronkowski is retiring from professional football, he said on his Instagram. This is the second time that Gronk has announced his retirement.

"I will now be going back into my retirement home, walking away from football again with my head held high knowing I gave it everything I had, good or bad, every time I stepped out on the field," he wrote. "From retirement, back to football and winning another championship and now back to chilling out, thank you to all."

The 33-year-old tight end from Amherst, NY, located near Buffalo, 11 seasons in the NFL, nine of which were with the Patriots, before signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. 

Former Patriot's Quarterback Tom Brady, whose had a highly-publicized friendship with Gronk, took to social media to congratulate his teammate. 

"Nobody has ever embodied the idea of 'leaving it all out on the field' like Rob has throughout his entire career," Brady said on Facebook. "I’m proud of all that we’ve accomplished together, and even more excited for all you have ahead of you. Congrats Gronk, you deserve it." 

Gronk announced an initial retirement in March 2019 citing the pain from his injuries the toll it took on his mental health.
